Miguel Stilwell Andrade

Miguel Stilwell d’Andrade is currently executive board member of EDP Distribuição, the Portuguese nacional distribuition grid operator, non executive board member of EDP Inovação, non executive board member of EDPGás (Gas Distribuition) and chairman of InovGrid ACE. Prior to this, Miguel held several roles within the EDP Group, including most recently as head of Strategy and Corporate Development/M&A team at EDP, having led and coordinated EDP’s M&A activities over the period 2006-2009. Miguel initiated his career at UBS Investment bank in London, UK.

Douglas J Arent

Doug Arent is executive director of the Joint Institute for Strategic Energy Analysis at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL). He specializes in strategic planning and financial analysis competencies; clean energy technologies and energy and water issues; and international and governmental policies. In addition to his NREL responsibilities, Arent is an author, expert reviewer for the IPCC Special Report on Renewable Energy and a member of the US Government Review Panel for the IPCC Reports on Climate Change and is a Sr. Visiting Fellow at the Center for Strategic and International Studies. Arent was appointed in 2008 to serve on the National Academy of Sciences Panel on Limiting the Magnitude of Future Climate Change. Arent is on the Executive Council of the U.S. Association of Energy Economists, a Member of the Keystone Energy Board and is on the Advisory Board of E+Co, a public purpose investment company that supports sustainable development across the globe.

Neil Auerbach

Neil is managing partner of Hudson Clean Energy Partners, which he founded to capture the growing market opportunities in clean energy investing. Hudson aims to focus on late stage investing, from initial technology commercialisation through to full scale deployment, encompassing a mixture of growth capital, buyout and real asset investment styles. Prior to forming Hudson, Neil was a Goldman Sachs partner. There he founded and managed the US Alternative Energy Business, among other businesses, investing over USD 1.5bn of firm capital in wind, solar energy and biofuels. Neil and his partners at Hudson, Joseph Slamm and Daniel Gross, were active in some of Goldman’s most notable investments in the clean energy sector, including Horizon Wind, First Solar and SunEdison. Before joining Goldman, Neil was a managing director at Barclays Capital in New York, and launched his banking career at Morgan Stanley. He is a member of the CEO Council of the American Council on Renewable Energy.

Morgan Bazilian

Morgan Bazilian is the special advisor to the director-general of UNIDO on international energy and climate issues. In this role he helps shape the United Nation’s contribution to these key areas. Prior to this, he held a political appointment as special advisor on Energy and climate change to the Minister for Energy in Ireland. Morgan was the lead climate change negotiator for the EU on low-carbon technology, and a member of the UNFCCC’s expert group on Technology Transfer (EGTT). Morgan also supports the work of the International Energy Agency’s World Energy Outlook (WEO), the World Economic Forum’s Clean Energy Investment Committee, and Bloomberg New Energy Finance’s Global Futures. He also serves as an advisor to the Novus Modus Fund, a €200M cleantech venture capital fund.

Pilgrim Beart

Pilgrim is founder of AlertMe.com, the leading online Home Energy Management service, which enables consumers to take control of their energy consumption and drive it down. Based in Cambridge, UK, the company is venture-backed by Good Energies, Index Ventures, SET Venture Partners and VantagePoint Venture Partners. Pilgrim started his career as a computer engineer and manager in several technology start-ups in Cambridge, Oxford and Silicon Valley before progressing to start his own companies as a serial technology entrepreneur. He is a named inventor on more than 40 granted patents worldwide in areas as diverse as antenna systems, emergent security systems and wireless power transfer, and enjoys taking novel technology (or even science) and turning it into shipping product. Pilgrim has founded three companies: activeRF (an early player in real-time location systems), antenova (whose multi-band antenna systems have shipped in the tens of millions in mobile devices such as the BlackBerry) and AlertMe (co-founded AlertMe in 2006 with Adrian Critchlow).

Patrick Birley

Patrick Birley was appointed chief executive of ECX in July 2007. He was previously chief executive officer of LCH.Clearnet Limited, the London based multi-asset class clearing house. Prior to this he held senior management positions at the London Metal Exchange (director of strategy) and FTSE Group (director of operations). Patrick started his financial markets career as the second employee of the fledgling South African Futures Exchange (SAFEX) in 1989, and was appointed as the youngest chief executive of any financial market in early 1999. Patrick was a key player in the SAFEX development into one of the most active derivatives exchanges in the world

Dr Fatih Birol

Dr. Fatih Birol is the chief economist and the director of the office responsible for the economic analysis of energy policy at the Paris-based International Energy Agency. He oversees the annual World Energy Outlook which is the flagship publication of the IEA and is recognised as the most authoritative source for energy analysis and projections. He is responsible for the recently founded IEA Energy Business Council which draws together leaders from the world’s foremost energy corporations to provide a business perspective on a broad range of energy market challenges. He is a frequent contributor to print and electronic media and delivers numerous speeches each year at major international summits and conferences. Fatih received awards from the Russian Academy of Sciences in 2002 and from the U.S. Department of Energy in 2004 in recognition of his contribution to energy policy formulation. He received the annual award of the International Association of Energy Economics for ‘Outstanding Contributions to the Profession’ in 2005. In 2006, he was made a “Chevalier dans l’ordre des Palmes Academique” by the French Government for distinguished services to the field of international energy economics. He received the Golden Honour Medal of the Austrian Republic in 2007 for his contribution to the understanding of global energy issues. In 2009, Fatih received the Federal Cross of Merit (Bundesverdienstkreuz/Verdienstkreuz 1. Klasse), the top state decoration of the Federal Republic of Germany. Prior to joining the IEA in 1995, Fatih worked for six years at the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) in Vienna.

Max von Bismarck

Max has initiated and currently champions World Economic Forum projects focusing on the “Globalization of Alternative Investments”, “Entrepreneurship and Successful Growth Strategies”, the impact of the financial and economic crisis on a “New Financial Architecture” and projects investigating the opportunities in “Green Investing” and “Investing in Infrastructure”. Jointly with professor Josh Lerner (Harvard Business School) his team published “The Global Economic Impact of Private Equity Report” in 2008, 2009 and 2010. Max also co-authored “The Future of the Global Financial System” and “Green Investing – Towards a Clean Energy Infrastructure” published in Davos in January 2009 and January 2010. Furthermore Max leads the World Economic Forum’s Global Agenda Council on “The Future of Long Term Investing” and is a trustee of the World Economic Forum USA Retirement Plan. Max was named a German-American Young Leader of the Atlantik Bruecke in 2004, a Global Leadership Fellow by the World Economic Forum in 2005, a Bucerius Young Leader by the ZEIT-Foundation in 2007 and a Senior Advisor on Global Business for the Stanford Program on Regions of Entrepreneurship and Innovation at Stanford University in 2009.

Mike Bissonette

Michael Bissonette is senior vice president and general manager of the Efficient Energy Systems division at AeroVironment Inc. (AV). The Monrovia, CA based company is a leader in Unmanned Aircraft Systems and Efficient Electrical Energy Systems. Mike has held key positions in business development, strategic planning, and engineering at McDonnell Douglas, Lockheed Martin, and Western Digital Corporation. As GM of the Efficient Energy Systems group at AV, Mike is helping to usher in a new era in Clean Transportation by capitalizing on the company’s decades-long leadership in safe and practical charging solutions for Electric Vehicles. Originally from Upstate New York, Mike now resides in Southern California with his wife and four children.

Brian Bolster

Brian Bolster is the renewable energy sector captain for the Natural Resources Group and also has coverage responsibility for various utility and power clients globally. Brian joined the Energy and Power Group in 1999 as an associate in the New York office. Brian was named managing director in 2007. Brian serves on the board of advisors for the Georgetown Wall Street Alliance.

Andrew Brandler

Andrew Brandler is the chief executive Officer of CLP Holdings, the parent company of the CLP Group (formerly China Light and Power Company, Limited), a position he assumed in May, 2000. Andrew has had an extensive career as a banker in the energy and utility sector in North America, Europe and, since 1995, in Asia. His experience covers power sector deregulation in the United States during the 1980s, and, moving back to London in 1989, the UK electricity industry privatization and deregulation in the early 1990s. Immediately prior to joining CLP, Mr. Brandler was Head of Asia-Pacific Corporate Finance at Schroders, the UK investment bank, based in Hong Kong. Andrew is also the current chairman of The Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce, a council member of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council and The Hong Kong Management Association and a member of the operations review committee of the independent commission against corruption and the commission on strategic development of the central policy unit of the government of the HKSAR.

Professor Nigel Brandon

Professor Nigel Brandon heads the Energy Futures Lab at Imperial College London, a multi-disciplinary research institute which brings together over 600 researchers to address global energy challenges. He is also the UK’s Focal point with China in climate change, energy and environment, senior fellow to the UK Research Councils Energy programme, and chief scientific advisor to Ceres Power, an AIM listed fuel cell development company spun out from his research in 2001. Nigel held research positions with BP and then Rolls-Royce before joining Imperial College as member of faculty. His research interests focus on energy systems, with a particular focus on fuel cell technology. He was awarded the Royal Academy of Engineering silver medal in 2007 for his contribution to UK engineering leading to commercial exploitation. He is a; fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering; Chartered engineer; fellow of the Energy Institute; fellow of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining; fellow of The City and Guilds of London Institute. He sits on the editorial boards of the Journals of Renewable Power Generation, Chemistry and Sustainability: Energy and Materials, and Power and Energy.

Rory Bremner

Rory Bremner is best known as Britain’s sharpest impressionist, with a repertoire of over 100 characters. His unique brand of comedy and satire has sustained a highly successful career in radio and television for over 25 years. Nowadays, he’s equally in demand as a columnist for newspapers and magazines, a documentary presenter and one of the country’s leading after-dinner speakers. Together with John Bird and John Fortune, his satirical programmes (Rory Bremner- Who Else 1992-97, Bremner, Bird and Fortune 1997-present) have been a mainstay of Channel 4’s output since 1992, winning a total of four BAFTAs and three RTS awards. Prior to that, Rory had seven series on the BBC, from 1986 to 1992, winning the Special Award at the Golden Rose of Montreux in 1987. Over the last two decades, Rory’s appeared in many of the top TV comedy shows, from Spitting Image and Whose Line is it Anyway to Have I got News For You, Mock the Week, and QI

Peter Brun

Peter joined Vestas Wind Systems Ltd in August 2006 where he is heading Group Government Relations which is in charge of the company’s global dialogue with energy policy stakeholders. Before joining Vestas he worked with public and regulatory affairs his entire carrier. In his different professional positions in the Danish Foreign Service and during postings abroad in USA, Germany and Belgium he has since 1992 worked extensively with stakeholder relations both in the public and private sector and specifically with cases on regulatory matters in North America, the European Union, Japan and Australia. Peter C. Brun is President of the Danish Wind Power Industry Association, Vice President of European Wind Energy Association, Vice President of the Danish Energy Industry, board member of Global Wind Energy Council and board member of various national industry federations and wind power associations around the World.

Andrew Bud

Andrew Bud is the non-executive chairman of the Consortium on Digital Energy (CODE), the industry group sponsored by Bloomberg New Energy Finance to review progress and challenges in the development of the Smart Grid. He is the executive chairman of mBlox Inc, the world’s largest mobile transaction network, based in Sunnyvale and London and employing 300 staff worldwide. It specialises in commercial text messaging and mobile billing. Andrew is also the global chair of the Mobile Entertainment Forum, the trade association representing the $30bn mobile media industry. He is the part-time chairman of the new Institute of Advanced Media, an academic/industrial partnership sponsored by University College London. From 2005-8 he was a non-executive director of PhonePay Plus, an agency of UK telecoms regulator Ofcom. In 2009 he was named by Informa as one of the world’s 50 most influential executives in the mobile telecoms industry. Andrew founded mBlox in 1999 and as CEO until 2003 led it to profitability and US expansion. His background is in mobile communications. In 1994 he was one of the founders of Omnitel (now Vodafone Italia), Italy’s first competitive mobile operator. He began his career in the UK nuclear industry, and in 1981 founded and edited “Energy Matters”, a magazine dealing with energy policy and technology.

Richard Budge

Richard Budge is the chief executive officer of Powerfuel plc and is currently revitalising the long-term mining prospects of Hatfield Colliery, near Doncaster where it is planned to develop a 900MW Power Station together with a CCS project. Once built, this will take all production from Hatfield for the next 30 years and capture 4.5mt of CO2 per annum. The project has already been selected as one of the six schemes to go forward under the European Economic Recovery Package (EERP) and is eligible under the European Grant. Formerly the chief executive of RJB Mining plc, Britain’s biggest coal producer operating 13 collieries and a similar number of surface mine sites in Yorkshire, the North East and the Midlands. Until 22nd July 2002, Richard represented UK coal producers on the European Coal and Steel Community. He was chairman of its Marketing and Forward Studies Committee. Richard was the main instigator of Confederation of UK Coal Producers (Coalpro) and has served as chairman and president from 1991 to 2001. Vice president of the Coal Trade Benevolent Association, Richard is Chairman of the Coal Industry Social Welfare organisation, and he is currently chairman of Nottinghamshire Enterprise and a Trustee of the National Coal Mining Museum for England.

Robin Post van der Burg

Robin is a Chemical Engineer(MSc) has worked for almost ten years across various positions for Arco Chemical and Lyondell in the Netherlands, USA and UK. He returned to Amsterdam in 2002 to start his own business. This was sold to a private equity firm in 2005, enabling Robin to return to the chemical engineering industry. Robin founded Topell in 2006 together with partner WWE, a renewable energy investor; in May 2008 RWE Innogy invested to become a third key shareholder. In December 2009 Topell merged with sister company Polow Energy Systems. The merged company, Topell Energy, combines Polow’s biomass gasification and Topell’s torrefaction know how. Topell Energy will produce biocoal pellets from a wide range of biomass feedstocks through torrefaction and pelletisation, using Torftech UK’s innovative reactor technology. Pellets of torrefied biomass, a 2nd generation biofuel, are more flexible and have a superior energy density, at a lower price than conventional wood pellets. With as objective to grow its production volume, Topell Energy intends to contribute to the acceleration of CO2 emission reduction (addressing the major environmental challenges which we are currently facing).

James Cameron

James Cameron is an executive director and CCC's vice chairman. He is responsible for strategic and sector development and represents the firm at the highest levels of business and government. James is a pre-eminent expert in developing policy responses to climate change. Prior to CCC he was counsel to Baker & McKenzie and was the founder and the head of their Climate Change Practice. James has spent much of his legal career working on climate change matters, including negotiating the UNFCCC and Kyoto Protocol as an adviser to the Alliance of Small Island States. He has held academic positions at Cambridge, London, Bruges and Sydney and is currently affiliated with the Yale Centre for Environmental Law and Policy. As a barrister he appeared in several of the leading cases in environmental law. James is chairman and a trustee member of the Carbon Disclosure Project, chairman of China Dialogue, a board member of the Worldwatch Institute, a treasurer of REEEP, a member of Oxfam's development board and a senior advisor to The Climate Group. He is a member of the board of GE Ecomagination, a member of the Copenhagen Climate Council, a member of the development board of the Smith School and a member of the World Economic Forum's Climate Council.

Per Carstedt

Per Carstedt is the founder and chairman of the EcoEnergy Africa group, one of the founders of the SEKAB group and he is since 1998 the chairman of the BioAlcohol Fuel Foundation. EcoEnergy Africa operates a platform with incorporated companies in Tanzania and Mozambique for developing clusters of role model AgroEnergy projects producing ethanol, sugar and power based on sugar cane. The platform was established 2006 and the first project expects to be commissioned during second half of 2010. The objective is to develop large scale sustainable production for domestic usage as well as for export markets with a focus on Europe. SEKAB group is the leading market developer and provider of ethanol fuel for heavy diesel engines and FlexiFuel Vehicles in Europe. Sekab is also the largest importer of Brazilian Ethanol to Europe and the first provider of Verified Sustainable Ethanol to the international market. Sekab E-Technology developing the next generation of cellulose based ethanol and operates since 2004 the largest European pilot plant for cellulose ethanol.

John Cavalier

John Cavalier joined Hudson in April 2008 as co-managing partner. John was formerly vice chairman of Credit Suisse's Investment Banking Division and served as chairman of the Energy Group and head of Credit Suisse's Global Renewable Energy efforts. Under John’s leadership, the Renewables Energy Group has become Wall Street's leading Finance and Advisory Group to the Alternative Energy space. The Group has played a principal role in the initial public offerings of SunPower, Suntech, REC, Cosan, and financings for Airtricity, FPL Wind, Hawkeye, and many other major solar, wind and biofuel companies. Mr. Cavalier joined Credit Suisse in November 2000 when the Firm merged with Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette, where he was a Managing Director and a founding member of DLJ's Power and Energy Group. Since its inception in 1990, that group focused on financing, restructuring, and mergers and acquisitions within the energy sector, which was a continuation of the work John performed at his predecessor firm, Drexel Burnham Lambert.

KK Chan

KK Chan is a specialist investment manager in the clean energy and cleantech sectors. He started his career as an investment banker with Credit Suisse First Boston and NatWest Markets, focusing on corporate finance, equity and debt capital markets, and advisory. Previously KK Chan was managing director and head of investments- Greater China, Climate Change Capital. He was responsible for all investment activities in carbon emission credits under the Clean Development Mechanism and environmental projects in Greater China. Dr Chan was Managing Director of CLP Renewables, China Light and Power (CLP; a leading power company in Asia with a market capitalization of over US$16 billion). He was responsible for building and managing the clean energy and cleantech portfolio of CLP in Asia Pacific. He managed over 400 staff and expanded CLP’s clean energy portfolio, including hydro, wind and biomass, ten-fold in just two years.

Jeff Chapman

Jeff Chapman established the Carbon Capture & Storage Association in March 2006. The objective of the Association is to represent the interests of its members in the business of capture and geological storage of carbon dioxide. From its base in London the CCSA brings together specialist companies in manufacturing & processing, power generation, engineering & contracting, oil, gas & minerals as well as a wide range of support services to the energy sector such as law, banking, consultancy and project management. Jeff has over thirty years of management experience in industry, consultancy and more latterly in government circles. He has specialised in the energy sector with a focus on the business opportunities that arise from climate change mitigation.

Huan Chen

Mr. Chen Huan is deputy director General of China CDM Fund Management Center, Ministry of Finance of China. Mr. Chen joined the MOF in 1989. Since then, he has been engaged in international financial cooperation responsibilities and matters related to positions with the World Bank Department and International Department of the MOF. In this capacity, Mr. Chen has been actively and thoroughly involved in numerous international financial and development affairs, including international development projects supported by the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank. From 1999-2002, he served in the Office of Executive Director for China at the World Bank, in the positions of Advisor and Alternate Executive Director. Since July 2007, he serves in the current position.

Professor Siwei Cheng

Professor Siwei Cheng was vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the Chinese National People’s Congress from 1998 to 2008. He is a leading scholar in the economic, financial and management science fields as well as the chemical industry. Professor Cheng has led and promoted the research and development of data science and venture capital in China. He currently serves as director of the Chinese Academy of Sciences Research Centre on Fictitious Economy & Data Science. He is also chairman of the China Advisory Council for the World Economic Forum and president of the Chinese Academy of Management. Previous positions include: chairman of the Central Committee, China National Democratic Construction Association; director-general of the Department of Management Sciences, National Natural Science Foundation; vice-minister of Chemical Industry, China.

Sarah Clough

Sarah Clough is the deputy chief executive officer of the Australian Centre for Renewable Energy (ACRE). ACRE is administered through the Australian Government Department of Resources Energy and Tourism and will be lead by a statutory advisory board. ACRE promotes the development, commercialisation and deployment of renewable energy and enabling technologies and helps to improve their competitiveness in Australia. ACRE liaises closely with the private sector, including major corporations, SMEs and business associations. Sarah’s previous positions include general manager, Clean Energy Initiative; general manager, Energy Futures Branch in the Australian Government Department of Resources, Energy and Tourism and senior roles providing advice on science, tourism and intellectual property issues in the Australian Government Industry Department.

Rob Collecott

Rob has more than 20 years' industry experience; specialising in the strategy and planning of downstream energy placements and programmes for a wide range of entities including major integrated oil companies, public utilities and IPP's. Within Miller he is responsible for the development, production and marketing of the downstream energy portfolio with particular emphasis on utility business.

Karen Conover

Karen Conover is the wind energy segment director for DNV, a global risk management company that helps clients improve their business performance. She is based in DNV’s Cleaner Energy office in London. As wind energy segment director, Karen is responsible for the global coordination of all DNV’s wind energy activities out of offices in the US, Europe and Asia. She is the founder and former chief executive officer of Global Energy Concepts, a US wind energy consulting company that was acquired by DNV in 2008. Karen has over 20 years of experience with wind energy technology and other renewable energy applications. She has served on the Board of Directors of the American Wind Energy Association for over 10 years and has authored numerous publications on wind energy technology and applications.

Ms Vivienne Cox

Vivienne Cox is the former CEO and executive vice president of BP Alternative Energy and a former member of the BP Executive Management Team. Vivienne joined BP Chemicals in a commercial role moving to BP Exploration in 1985, and then BP Finance. In 1990 Vivienne set up the commodity derivatives group within oil trading and in 1996 managed the development of new business in central and Eastern Europe. In 1998 Vivienne became the CEO of Air BP; managing the sales of branded fuels in over 90 countries worldwide. Following this, Vivienne pulled together all BP's trading activities in Oil, Gas, Chemicals and Finance into a single organisation which she led until 2006. Vivienne was an executive vice president from 2004 and in 2008 she brought together all of BP's activities in renewables. Vivienne is on the board of Rio Tinto plc and the Board of the St. Francis Hospice Charity, UK.

John R. (Grizz) Deal

John R Grizz Deal is the chief executive officer of Hyperion Power Generation Inc. He has over twenty years of experience in technology commercialisation and fast growing ventures, in both product development and chief executive roles. John was previously the managing director at Purple Mountain Ventures, serving a dozen international firms on product development, capital expansion, and marketing. John also serves as a director of the U.S. National Lab Seed Fund, a venture capital fund focused on innovations developed by the U.S. Department of Energy laboratory complex. He is the former TVC entrepreneur in residence with the U.S. Department of Energy/NNSA, visiting entrepreneur at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL), chief marketing officer for Space Imaging, the founder and former chief executive officer of LizardTech, and a consulting scientist at LANL.

Jos Delbeke

Mr Jos Delbeke (1954, Belgium), deputy director-general of the European Commission‘s DG Environment since 2008. He was very involved in negotiations on the package on climate change and energy in the EU Council and Parliament. Jos has also been a key player in developing Europe's International Climate Change strategy, its legislation on cars and fuels, the European Emissions Trading Scheme, and legislation on air quality and emissions from big industrial installations. He joined the European Commission in 1986 and was very active on market-based instruments, on cost-benefit analysis, and on the new chemicals legislation REACH. For several years he was the European Commission's chief negotiator at the UNFCCC Conference of the Parties.

Michael Deutmeyer

Michael Deutmeyer started his professional carrier in 1993 with Spectro Analytical Instruments in Germany as a trainee in international marketing. After two years he began to work for the European Union`s TACIS program as a consultant for international marketing in CIS countries such as Belarus and Ukraine for 5 years, focusing on wood processing and wood products trade. After 5 years as managing director in the automobile industry with a focus on quality management and reorganisation, Michael Deutmeyer became managing director of CHOREN Biomass GmbH in 2004. He is responsible for the feedstock sourcing concepts for CHOREN`s existing and planned BTL production sites, developing energy wood projects such as short rotation plantations in Germany, sourcing recycled and forest based energy wood for the BTL Beta plant in Freiberg, Germany, establishing energy biomass trade on an national and international level and conducting studies on future biomass trends and large scale biomass sourcing concepts. Michael Deutmeyer is fluent in German, English, Russian, Spanish and French. He lives with his wife and their three children in Hamburg, Germany.

Emma Duncan

Emma is the deputy editor of The Economist and the magazine’s chief reporter, writer and editor on climate change. In addition she has held posts of Britain editor and Asia editor and has covered the media business, the Middle East, home affairs, agriculture, commodities and the transport industry. She has served as Delhi correspondent covering India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, and has written special reports for the paper on Saudi Arabia, the Gulf States, India, Pakistan and the food industry. The author of “Breaking the Curfew”, a book on politics, culture and society in the state of Pakistan, Emma has also written widely on a freelance basis for publications such as The Times, The Sunday Times, The Daily Telegraph, Vogue and Cosmopolitan, and appears often on radio and television. A graduate of Oxford University, Emma began her career as a researcher and reporter at Independent Television News.

Sean Ebnet

Sean Ebnet began his career with the United States Forest Service before moving into the private sector where he spent over 10 years working as a consultant to timber companies, power utilities and government agencies. The consulting business was sold in 1995 to Duke Engineering and Services (a subsidiary of Duke Power), where Sean continued to help lead the companies growth in renewable power developments and relicensing. In 2000, Sean became executive director of Alternative Energy Investment Group where he was responsible for the screening, research and development of privately funded renewable power projects. In 2004 Sean became an executive of Green Island Energy, a Canadian power company focused on biomass and waste to energy developments. Sean also served as an advisor to the administrator of the Federal Government of Canada’s Environmental Choice Program (Ecologo) for international renewable power certification. Throughout his career, Sean has represented his employers at various political assemblies including the World Summit, United Nations Development Program and State of the World Forum.

Michael Eckhart

Michael T. Eckhart is president of the American Council on Renewable Energy (ACORE), a Washington DC-based nonprofit organization with members in wind, solar, hydro, ocean, geothermal, biomass, biofuels and waste sources of energy. He has established ACORE’s Board of Directors and Advisory Board of 50 national leaders and a membership of over 750 organizations. Prior to ACORE, he developed financing for solar energy under the SolarBank Initiative for which he was named Renewable Energy Man of the Year of India in 1998. He also worked extensively in South Africa, founding the Shell-Eskom joint venture in 1999 which implemented PV on over 10,000 rural homes. Earlier, he was chairman & chief executive officer of the power generation development firm United Power Systems, Inc.; vice president of the venture capital firm Areté Ventures, Inc.; and the strategic planner of General Electric Company’s power systems sector.

Stuart Evans

Stuart Evans is executive chairman of Novacem, the leading developer of carbon negative cement and a spin-out from Imperial College London. He raised a £1Mn+ Seed Round in 2009 from Imperial Innovations, the Royal Society Enterprise Fund and the London Technology Fund. Novacem also leads a UK TSB project with partners Rio Tinto, Laing O’Rourke and WSP Group. Stuart serves as Board Member of the business-led East of England Development Agency, and as non-executive director of Pursuit Dynamics, an AIM-listed firm with world class fluid dynamics technology for CleanTech and other markets. Stuart was previously the founding CEO of Plastic Logic (Cambridge spin-out that has now raised over $250Mn to develop flexible displays for electronic books) and Cotag International (RFID start-up, now part of Siemens). He takes a special interest in innovation, enterprise and entrepreneurship from a global perspective. Stuart’s early career was at IBM and McKinsey; and has been a Technology Pioneer at the World Economic Forum in Davos. He is Chair of Trustees at the Arthur Rank Hospice Charity, which supports the local community adult hospice in Cambridge.

Paolo Frankl

Paolo Frankl is the head of the renewable energy unit at the International Energy Agency. The IEA is an inter-governmental organisation that acts as energy policy advisor to 28 member countries in their effort to ensure reliable, affordable and clean energy for their citizens. Paolo serves as secretary to the IEA working party on renewable energy technologies. He is also currently a member of the Advisory Group to the European Commission for the FP7 Theme on Environment and Climate Change. Previous to joining the IEA, Paolo worked in academia as assistant professor and in a private research and consulting institute in Italy as senior analyst and manager, focusing on renewable energy, life cycle assessment and eco-labelling. From 2000 to 2002, Paolo served as advisor to the director-general of the Italian Ministry for the Environment. Former titles include president of the Guarantee Committee of the Label 100% Green Energy (Italian renewable electricity label) and head of the Task Force on Communication of Life Cycle information -UNEP/SETAC Life Cycle Initiative. Paolo is a physicist by training.

Tom Gage

Tom Gage is CEO and president of AC Propulsion, Inc., a leading supplier of electric vehicle power systems to automakers and research organisations. Mr. Gage has particular expertise in the energetics of automobiles and in the ways public policy can affect automotive technology and market trends. He gained experience in these areas as a manager in the Product Planning and Regulatory Strategy Office at Chrysler in Detroit, and as a senior consultant in the Global Automotive Practice at SRI Consulting in Menlo Park, CA. At SRI he led projects on topics including the future of the automobile and automotive transportation, electric vehicle commercialization, intelligent transportation systems, and neighborhood vehicles. Tom’s automotive career has also included design and engineering for fuel, emission control, and turbocharger systems, auto racing, and work in an auto dealership.

Marie-Barbe Girard

Marie-Barbe Girard is principal associate in Transport for London’s Delivery Unit, a small team reporting directly to the Transport Commissioner and responsible for ensuring the organisation delivers the Mayor’s transport priorities. Since joining TfL in 2007, Marie-Barbe has been actively involved in several strategic projects such as preparing for the periodic review of London Underground’s Public Private Partnership, developing policies to tackle social exclusion in London, and more recently investigating options for the roll-out of electric vehicles across London. Prior to joining TfL, Marie-Barbe worked as deputy chief of staff to the French minister in charge of the civil service and led investigations at the Office of Fair Trading.

Bruno Giussani

Bruno Giussani is the European director of TED (www.ted.com), a non-profit devoted to 'Ideas Worth Spreading', and the curator of the annual TEDGlobal conference. As a member of TED's senior team, he participates in the definition of TED's strategy and in the management of its activities and initiatives. He is also a well-known author, his articles have appeared in many media publications across Europe and the US, including the New York Times, the Economist and the European editions of Wired. He has also authored several books, and is an entrepreneur who has co-founded three Internet companies. He is a member of the board of the Knight Fellowships at Stanford University. Previously, he was the Head of online strategy at the World Economic Forum. He is based in Switzerland.

Arnold Goldman

Arnold J. Goldman is the chairman and founder of both BrightSource Energy Inc. and BrightSource Industries (Israel), Ltd. BrightSource has signed PPAs for 2,600MW with PG&E and South California Edison. The BrightSource Solar Energy Development Center with its Luz Power Tower (LPT) 550 technology is producing solar generated steam at the highest sustained temperatures and pressures in the solar thermal field. Arnold is the founder of Luz International, Ltd. and served as its chief executive officer. He also co-founded Electric Fuel Ltd, an electric battery/fuel cell company listed today as Aerotech on the NASDAQ. He was the vice president of Engineering and co-founder of Lexitron, the first word processing company in the US, listed on NASDAQ in 1974. Lexitron was bought by Raytheon in 1977. Arnold has also received two international awards: The International Solar Energy Society Achievement Through Action Award in Memory of Christopher A. Weeks and The EuroSolar Augustin-Mouchot Award for his contribution to solar energy development He also holds numerous patents for his inventions and innovations

Katherine Hamilton

Katherine Hamilton joined the GridWise Alliance in October of 2008 as its first full time president. In her tenure, Katherine has watched the Alliance membership grow from 70 to over 100 members. In addition to new members, Katherine has brokered numerous strategic alliances with key stakeholder groups. Katherine has also been instrumental in spearheading the legislative and policy efforts of the Alliance in the past year including developing legislative language and providing testimony for Congress. In addition to her activities to promote the many different initiatives of the Alliance, Katherine has participated in numerous conferences as a keynote speaker and on smart grid panels. Prior to joining the GridWise Alliance, Katherine was policy advisor for Good Energies, Inc., a private investment company with a current portfolio in clean energy technologies of more than $6 Billion. In addition, Katherine co-directed the American Bioenergy Association, where she worked with entrepreneurs, universities and utilities in developing biomass technologies. As the President of her own company, The Hamilton Group, she worked with the Union of Concerned Scientists, Natural Resources Defense Council, Midwest Research Institute and other organisations to lobby Congress and statehouses on various clean energy policies and funding.

Klaus Heimann

Klaus Heimann works for SAP AG’s business unit global industry solutions and as senior vice president he is responsible for SAP’s software solutions in service industries (media, telco, uilities and waste & recycling). During his professional career at SAP Klaus has always focused on the realisation of standard business solutions for service industries. In the time from January 2002 until April 2007 Klaus has been heading up the industry business unit utilities (IBU) at the headquarters of SAP AG in Walldorf being responsible for SAP for utilities, SAP’s market leading business process platform for the global Utilities industry. Klaus has 32 years of professional experience in information technology. During this time, he always concentrated on the development and implementation of standard software solutions for various service industries, in particular for the utilities industry. Before joining SAP, Klaus worked for 16 years at a German software company. During 11 years as general manager and co-owner he focused the company on building Standard software solutions in customer relationship and billing for the European utilities industry

Thomas Heller

An expert in law, economic development and the performance of legal institutions, Thomas C. Heller has focused his research on the rule of law, international climate control, global energy use, and the interaction of government and nongovernmental organisations in establishing legal structures in the developing world. Since 1979, Thomas has been a professor at Stanford University, where he has served as the Shelton professor of International Legal Studies, senior fellow at the Stanford Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies and senior fellow (by courtesy) at the Woods Institute for the Environment. Since 1991, Thomas has been increasingly engaged in research and applied policy studies in energy and climate, with a principal concern with developments in China, India, Mexico, Brazil and other leading emerging markets. He has been a contributing lead author for the IPCC on the third and fourth assessment reports, as well as a contributor to the special reports on technology transfer and emissions scenarios. Beginning in 2008, Thomas has been a core team member directing Project Catalyst—an analysis based project in support of the Copenhagen Climate process. From September 2009, he will become the executive director of a new non-governmental organisation, the Climate Policy Initiative (CPI), based in San Francisco with offices in Europe, Asia and Latin America. CPI will assess, evaluate and advise governments and private firms on the implementation of national low carbon growth plans and measures, with particular attention to the fit between regulatory and public expenditure policies, infrastructure financing, and industrial organisation in the key sectors relevant to energy and climate change.

Jeffrey Holzschuh

Jeffrey R. Holzschuh is vice chairman of Institutional Securities Group and chairman of Morgan Stanley’s Global Power and Utility Group. Over the past 26 years at Morgan Stanley, Jeff has been actively involved in many of the industry’s largest mergers and acquisitions and a wide variety of advisory and financing transactions. He serves as the chairman of Morgan Stanley’s Environmental Policy Committee. Jeff has also been appointed by the US Secretary of Energy to serve on the US Electricity Advisory Board. He served as co-chair of the Wall Street Advisory Group for the Edison Electric Institute and a founding member US Partnership for Renewable Energy Finance (USPREF) Jeff has been involved with the energy industry his entire career. He is a frequent speaker/panelist on industry topics and has been published in several periodicals

Didier Houssin

Didier Houssin was appointed director of the office of Oil Markets and Emergency Preparedness at the International Energy Agency on 16 July 2007. On 1 September 2008, the office was expanded and renamed to become the Directorate of Energy Markets and Security. Didier, a French national, was managing director of BRGM, the French Geological Survey where, since 2004, he had extensive management responsibilities over the 850-strong group. Among other matters, he was involved at BRGM in carbon capture and sequestration and in geothermal energy. Prior to joining BRGM, Didier was the former director of Energy and Mineral Resources in the French Ministry of Economy between 1997 and 2004. Also, from 1987 to 1990, he was seconded for three years to Total, where he dealt in particular with European energy matters. He also held several positions in the French Ministry of Industry dealing with financial and European affairs.

Robert Hutchinson

Robert Hutchinson is program director at RMI, working across all energy end-use sectors to develop and drive RMI’s research and consulting activities. Prior to joining RMI, he was managing director at Pronghorn Ventures, a role which continues, and a consultant to a number of venture backed and not-for-profit companies in the alternative energy and social services fields. Previously he spent 18 years with The Boston Consulting Group, where he helped start up several offices and Global Energy and IT practices, and was also active in the Industrial and High Tech practices. Earlier in his career, he was a research engineer and program manager at Battelle's Pacific Northwest Labs, Exxon Production Research, and MPR Associates (a nuclear industry consultancy). He has lived and worked in Europe, Brazil, Mexico, Australia, and the US.

Rahul Iyer

Rahul Iyer serves as a strategic advisor to the transportation sector, and cofounder of Primafuel, a low-carbon fuel technology and infrastructure company. Primafuel was recognized as a Technology Pioneer in 2008 by the World Economic Forum, and develops large-scale infrastructure projects with global energy companies. Prior to Primafuel, Rahul co-founded Element One Energy which was quickly acquired by UK-based Intelligent Energy (IE). Rahul leads emerging market business development for IE focused on distributed power/motive power sectors. His work culminated in multi-million dollar transactions with global energy, chemical, and transportation corporations in both Latin America and South Africa. Rahul is a recognised voice in renewable fuels public policy circles. He is an appointed member of the National Academy of Sciences Alternative Transportation Fuels Committee, the Biomass Coordinating Council of the American Council on Renewable Energy (ACORE), the California Biomass Collaborative, and the California Institute of Food and Agricultural Research at UC Davis.  His low-carbon fuels experience includes work with the World Bank, United Nations, and other national and state governments.

Michael Jacobs

An economist, Michael Jacobs was formerly a consultant in environmental policy and management, a research fellow at the London School of Economics and at the Centre for the Study of Environmental Change, Lancaster University, and (from 1997-2003) General Secretary of the Fabian Society, the UK’s premier think tank. Before his appointment to 10 Downing St in 2007 he was a member of the Council of Economic Advisers at HM Treasury, responsible for advising the Chancellor of the Exchequer on environmental tax, public spending and regulatory policy.

Lord Michael Jay

Michael Jay, Lord Jay of Ewelme, GCMG has been an independent member of the House of Lords since 2006. He is chairman of the House of Lords Appointments Commission, and is a member of the European sub-committee on Foreign Defence and Aid Policy. Lord Jay is also chairman of the medical aid charity, Merlin, and is a non-executive director of Associated British Foods, Candover Investments, Credit Agricole SA, EDF and Valeo. After a career in the Ministry of Overseas Development and the Foreign Office, including postings in Washington at the World Bank, New Delhi and Paris, Michael was appointed British Ambassador in Paris in 1996 and then served as permanent under secretary to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and Head of the Diplomatic Service from 2002-2006. He was also the Prime Minister, Tony Blair’s personal representative to the G8 at the Gleneagles Summit in 2005 and at St. Petersberg in 2006.

Dr. Ray O Johnson

Dr. Ray O Johnson is the senior vice president and chief technology officer of the Lockheed Martin Corporation. As an officer of the corporation and a member of the executive leadership team, Ray guides the Corporation's technology vision and provides corporate leadership in the strategic areas of technology and engineering, which include more than 71,000 people working on more than 4,000 programs. Ray also leads the Corporation's Advanced Concepts Organization and the Center for Innovation, a world-class laboratory for collaborative experimentation and analysis involving Lockheed Martin, its customers, and industry partners. In addition to executive leadership and management positions, Ray has experience in strategic planning, program development, program management, and venture capital funding., He is a full academician of the International Academy of Astronautics (IAA), a fellow of the International Society for Optical Engineering (SPIE), an associate fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA), and a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), Eta Kappa Nu, Tau Beta Pi, and Phi Kappa Phi.

Abyd Karmali

Abyd Karmali is managing director and global head of carbon markets at Bank of America Merrill Lynch. Abyd is the bank's point person for carbon business opportunities and serves on Bank of America's Environmental Council. Abyd has worked for 19 years on climate change and the carbon markets and serves between 2008-2010 as elected president of the Carbon Markets and Investors Association, as well as a member of Her Majesty's Treasury Carbon Market Expert Group and of the World Economic Forum (Davos) steering committee for advancing low-carbon finance and advisor to the Carbon Disclosure Project. Abyd was previously employed with ICF International in Washington DC, Toronto, and London. In 1996-97 he was climate change officer at the United Nations Environment Programme's industry office in Paris and participated in the Kyoto Protocol negotiations. In 2008, Abyd's team won Carbon Finance Transaction of the Year and The Banker Award for Most Innovative in Sustainability. His voluntary sector activity includes serving as chairman of Just Energy, a not-for-profit social enterprise recently set up by Oxfam, which works with low-income communities in developing countries to maximise revenues from medium-sized renewable energy businesses and to increase the supply of clean energy.

Ambassador Jongyong Kim

Jongyong Kim currently serves as Ambassador for Energy and Resources in the Korean Government. In this capacity, he deals with Korea’s energy related diplomacy. Before he assumed this post in January 2010, he was the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the State of Qatar. Since he joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade in 1984, he served in the Korean embassies in Egypt, the State of Bahrain, Canada, the Kingdom of Morocco, and Great Britain and Northern Ireland. He also served as a senior research officer in the department of Asian and Pacific Studies of Institute of Foreign Affairs and National Studies (IFNAS) which is a leading think-tank on the studies of foreign affairs and diplomacy in Korea

Chris Kirby

Chris Kirby is managing director of Magnomatics Limited, the leading developer of magnetic transmission systems and ultra compact and efficient permanent magnet motors and generators Chris formed his first engineering company in 1997 and as managing director, he grew the Company into a world leader in portable ultrasonic scanning systems, with key clients in the aerospace and renewable energy industries. In 2001 he merged the company with Sonatest plc, taking a position on the group management team and in 2004 co-founded the joint venture company Atlantis NDE SL. In 2005 he took a position as a commercial manager at the University of Sheffield, where he identified ground-breaking magnetic gearing research, and recognising its application to a range of low carbon technologies, he founded Magnomatics in 2006.

Susan Kish

Susan is the director of knowledge services at Bloomberg New Energy Finance. Prior to this position, she was both founder and CEO of independent think-tank First Tuesday Zurich, established to support the development of knowledge sharing in sustainable energy, information technology, mobile/ telecom and financial services. Forums, workshops and awards run by First Tuesday were attended by 23,000 people. Following its 2006 acquisition by global professional online network XING, Susan became XING’s head of network and community practice. Susan is also the co-producer and host of the annual European Energy Venture Fair in Zurich.

 Prior to her entrepreneurial career, Susan spent 14 years in a variety of executive positions at UBS including global functional head of structured finance based in Zurich, plus executive positions in New York where Susan was responsible for the bank’s entry into new financial markets.

Her career has included postings in the United Kingdom, Singapore and the United States. Alternative Energy serves as the low carbon technology frontier of the Group. The philosophy of Alternative Energy is to create material profitable new businesses in energy value chains which facilitate BP’s transition to a low carbon future. Alternative Energy is made up of four core businesses Biofuels, Carbon Management (including carbon capture and storage), Solar and US Wind. In each business we are serving customers in today’s market place at the same time as working on innovations for the future.

Michael Liebreich

Michael Liebreich is the chairman and CEO of Bloomberg New Energy Finance, a specialist provider of financial information and services to investors in renewable energy, low-carbon technologies and the carbon markets. Services include the Bloomberg New Energy Finance Briefing, the Bloomberg New Energy Finance Desktop (which is the world’s largest database of clean energy investors and transactions), the Bloomberg New Carbon Finance Deep Dive, subscription-based streams of research, analysis and forecasting, reports and consultancy. Michael is an experienced venture capitalist and entrepreneur who has helped build more than 25 companies. Before founding Bloomberg New Energy Finance early in 2004, he was UK managing director of a division of Group Arnault which invested $700m of technology venture capital. From 1995 to 1998, Michael was deputy managing director of Associated Press Television and founding director of Sports News Television, the world’s leading wholesale provider of sports news video. At the same time he acted as non-executive director of Interactive Investor prior to its IPO on the London Stock Exchange. Before that, Michael spent five years with McKinsey & Company in their London office focusing on operations and finance. From 1986 to 1993, Michael was a member of the British Ski Team, competing in the World Cup and in the 1992 Albertville Olympic Games.

Paul MacGregor

Paul is senior vice president of the Clean Energy Markets Division of Nexant, a premier global provider of smart grid, clean energy, and energy efficiency solutions. Paul has been instrumental in the development of the energy efficiency credit market in the US, where he initiated the first transaction, has provided expert testimony to state and federal agencies, helped draft national certification standards, and has overseen the creation of the first efficiency credits in every state market. Since beginning his career at GE, Paul has authored over 40 technical papers in four languages in the areas of mathematical modeling and optimization of energy systems. He holds a US patent on the application of neural network algorithms to the calculation of building energy utilization.

Lord Browne of Madingley

Lord Browne is the managing director and managing partner of Riverstone Holdings. Until 2007 he served as the group chief executive for BP Group, a position he had held since 1998. Lord Browne took the position of executive vice president and chief financial officer of Standard Oil Company in 1986. Following its merger with BP, Lord Browne was appointed CEO of Standard Oil in addition to his existing positions as executive vice president and chief financial officer at BP America. From 1989 he served as managing director and CEO at BP Exploration. Appointed as managing director to the board of the British Petroleum Company in 1991, he became group chief executive to BP Exploration in 1995 until its merger with Amoco, when he became group CEO of the combined companies. Lord Browne has held many non-executive directorships including with Goldman Sachs, Intel Corporation and SmithKline Beecham. As well as a former chair to the advisory board of Apax Partners, Lord Browne is current chair of Cambridge Judge Business School. In receipt of numerous honorary doctorates, he is also an Emeritus chair of the advisory board to Stanford Graduate School of Business. He was knighted in 1998 and made a life peer in 2001.

Mark Maslin

Professor Mark Maslin FRGS, FRSA is the director of the UCL Environment Institute and Head of the Department of Geography. He is an executive director of Carbon Auditors Ltd/Inc, a unique company that provides legally compliant monitoring of land carbon storage at 500m resolution via remote sensing and ecological models globally; allowing a diverse group of clients to claim a range of carbon credits. He is also advisor to the Global Cool Foundation, Carbon Sense Ltd, TippingPoint and the Cheltenham Science Festival. Mark is a leading scientist with particular expertise in past global and regional climatic change and has publish over 100 papers in journals such as Science, Nature, and Geology. He has been awarded grants of over £28 million. His areas of scientific expertise include causes of past and future global climate change, monitoring land carbon sinks and international and national climate change policies.

Scott McGaraghan

A fifteen-year veteran of the energy management industry, Scott oversees EnerNOC’s business development activities and continued growth outside of North America. Scott works with utilities, regulators, and program participants to design demand response programs and then enroll customers in these programs. Prior to taking on this role for EnerNOC, Scott led EnerNOC’s expansion into the Western United States where he helped develop and grow programs in California, Arizona, New Mexico, and Colorado before shifting his focus abroad. Prior to joining EnerNOC, Scott held a range of roles in the energy efficiency industry. His work has included policy development at the U.S. Department of Energy, deal sourcing and evaluation for venture capital firms, and consulting with large utilities and energy users. Scott also spent several years as a management consultant for Bain and Company where he provided strategic and operational support for electric utilities and other international clients.

Kathleen McGinty

The Honorable Kathleen A. McGinty is an operating partner at Element LLC, a private equity firm investing in early and mid-stage clean technology companies. She is a director at NRG Energy, Inc., a leading wholesale power company, Energy East, a gas and electric utility in New York and New England, and Weston Solutions Inc., a sustainability and environmental remediation firm. Kathleen is secretary of the Board of Trustees of Saint Joseph’s University. In July 2008, Ms McGinty stepped down as secretary of the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection and as chair of the Pennsylvania Energy Development Authority. During her tenure, she helped lead the state’s successful effort to attract market-leading clean tech and renewable energy companies to headquarter and manufacture in Pennsylvania, bringing more than a $1 billion in new investment and creating some 3,000 new jobs. Previous to her service in Pennsylvania, Kathleen was Bill Clinton’s chair of the White House Council on Environmental Quality and Legislative assistant and Environmental Advisor to then-Senator Al Gore. She also was a Senior Visiting Fellow for a year in New Delhi, India at TERI, the Tata Energy Research Institute.

John Melo

As CEO, John Melo has been instrumental in transforming Amyris to become the leader in the race to find solutions to the world’s growing demand for low carbon, cleaner burning transportation fuels and specialty chemicals. Before joining Amyris, he was president of U.S. fuels operations for British Petroleum, a $30B business unit, where he led successful programs to increase marketing volumes, reduce costs, and significantly improve financial returns. During his nine years with BP, John also served as CIO of the refining and marketing segment; senior advisor for e-business strategy to Lord Browne, BP group chief executive; and director of global brand development. Before joining BP, he worked with Ernst & Young and served on the management teams for several startup companies, including Computer Aided Services and Alldata Corporation. John is a native of Azores, Portugal. He enjoys travel, doing business in Brasil where he gets to practice his first language. He’s a member of YPO and of The Chicago club.

Alicia Montalvo

Alicia Montalvo has been the director general of the Spanish Climate Change Office, in the Ministry of Environment, and Rural and Marine Affairs since May 2008. In 1987 she joined the Spanish Public Administration and she belongs to the State Economist Body. She has developed her career mainly in the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Finance, with different responsibilities as director general of Trade and Foreign Investment, as well as deputy director of External Debt Management, implementing the first Spanish Debt for Development programs with developing countries. She has also been deputy director for Economic Policy, dealing with EU Lisbon Strategies implementation. From 1993-1997, she worked as assistant professor in Carlos III University of Madrid, where she lectured “Environmental and Natural Resources Economics”

Ms Sharon Nunes

Sharon Nunes is vice president of IBM Big Green Innovations, commissioned by IBM’s chairman to launch new businesses for IBM using information technology to solve critical problems around environmental issues. Together with clients and partners, IBM is implementing IT solutions to create a Smarter Planet. Sharon has held numerous executive positions leading new growth initiatives in IBM, including launch of IBM’s Computational Biology program, leading solutions development in IBM’s Life Sciences unit and leading ecosystem development for the Cell-BE ™ processor. Sharon is a member of the Engineering Advisory Committee at the University of Connecticut, Board of Advisors for the USC Marshall Center for Global Innovation and Advisory Board for the Polytechnic Institute of New York University's Cleantech Executive Development program. She was part of the National Academy of Engineering “Engineer of 2020” advisory board and was elected to the University of Connecticut’s Academy of Engineering for distinguished engineers. In 2006, Sharon was named a NAFE “Women of Excellence” national award winner for her impact in mentoring technical women. In 2009, she was recognized as a Women’s History Month Honoree as one of the “Women Taking the Lead to Save our Planet” and was inducted into the WITI (Women in Technology International) Hall of Fame.

Mr. Osamu Onodera

Osamu Onodera is director for International Affairs in the Energy Conservation and Renewable Energy Department in the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, Japan. He is responsible for bilateral/multilateral cooperation in energy conservation and renewable energy. He was the lead organiser on the Japanese side for the China-Japan Energy Conservation Environment Forum in 2008 and 2009. He has co-chaired two working groups (Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy) in the India-Japan Energy Dialogue, and has served as the head of delegation for METI on other bilateral meetings. He is also the head of the METI delegation for various multilateral meetings including the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) preparatory meetings, energy efficiency working party at the International Energy Agency (IEA), the newly formed International Partnership for Energy Efficiency Cooperation (IPEEC), and other renewable energy and energy efficiency meetings in APEC and APP.

Daniel B. Poneman

Daniel B. Poneman was nominated by President Obama to be deputy secretary of energy on April 20, 2009, and was confirmed by the United States Senate on May 18, 2009. Under the leadership of Secretary of Energy Steven Chu, Mr. Poneman also serves as chief operating officer of the Department. Mr. Poneman first joined the Department of Energy in 1989 as a White House Fellow. The next year he joined the National Security Council staff as Director of Defense Policy and Arms Control. From 1993 through 1996, Mr. Poneman served as Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director for Nonproliferation and Export Controls at the National Security Council. His responsibilities included the development and implementation of U.S. policy in such areas as peaceful nuclear cooperation, missile technology, space-launch activities, sanctions determinations, chemical and biological arms control efforts, and conventional arms transfer policy.

Chris Rapley

Professor Chris Rapley CBE is director of the Science Museum London and Professor of Climate Science at University College London. This follows a decade as director of the British Antarctic Survey, and four years as executive director of the International Geosphere-Biosphere Programme (IGBP) at the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences in Stockholm. Prior to that, Prof Rapley spent an extended period as Professor of Remote Sensing Science at University College London. Throughout his career he has been active in the international leadership of science, for example as President of the Scientific Committee for Antarctic Research, which coordinates the research activities of 34 nations in the Antarctic, and as Chair of the planning group for the International Polar Year 2007-2009. He is a Fellow of St Edmund's College Cambridge, a Fellow of University College London, and an Honorary Professor at the University of East Anglia. His interests are in climate change and earth system science, as well as a more general interest in the organisation, leadership and communication of science. Chris was awarded the 2008 Edinburgh Science Medal for having made 'a significant contribution to the understanding and wellbeing of humanity'.

James E. Rogers

James E. Rogers has been chairman of the board, president and CEO of Duke Energy since January 2007. He has more than 21 years of experience as a utility CEO. He was named president and CEO of Duke Energy following the merger of Duke Energy and Cinergy in April 2006. Before the merger, he served as Cinergy’s chairman and CEO for more than 11 years. Prior to the formation of Cinergy, he joined PSI Energy in 1988 as the company’s chairman, president and CEO. He served as executive vice president of interstate pipelines for the Enron Gas Pipeline Group before joining PSI. Before joining Enron Corp., Rogers was a partner in the Washington, D.C., office of Akin, Gump, Strauss, Hauer & Feld. Before that, he was deputy general counsel for litigation and enforcement for the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). The Jan. 5, 2009, edition of Newsweek named Rogers to The Global Elite list, "The 50 Most Powerful People in the World," saying, “The CEO of Duke Energy could make dreams of renewable power a reality.

Dr Armin Sandhoevel

Dr. Armin Sandhövel is CEO of Allianz Climate Solutions GmbH (Allianz SE), an advisory and brokerage firm for climate related projects. He formerly was Head Carbon Risk/Center of Competence Renewable Energies at Dresdner Bank AG and Head of Allianz Climate Core Group. He particularly focuses on carbon investment management, emissions trading and renewable energy financing and climate change trends in general. He chairs the UNEP FI Climate Change Group, is member of the advisory board of the Renewable Energy Finance Forum in London and member of the management board of the Financial Initiative Association, Geneva. He advises national and international institutions, e.g. UN, European Commission, German Government & Agencies, KfW.

Andreas Schierenbeck

Andreas Schierenbeck is a senior executive with nearly 20 years of experience in guiding companies to market success and profitability. At Siemens, Andreas Schierenbeck is serving chief executive officer and global entrepreneur for the Business Unit Building Automation – a US Dollar 3 Billion business of Siemens Building Technologies Division. During his career at Siemens he has held different positions of increasing responsibility in the Energy Automation as well as System Engineering Business. As graduate engineer he has a solid background in electrical engineering as well as excellent technical experience. In addition to his current functions at Siemens Andreas serves as vice president of eu.bac – the European association of manufacturers and service suppliers in the field of building automation and controls. Eu.bac operates as an industry platform with the main purpose of quality assurance and energy efficiency in the sector home and building automation.

Dr Adnan A. Shihab-Eldin

Dr. Shihab-Eldin is currently serving as senior advisor and consultant to a number of public and private and international institutions, organisations and companies, including Adviser and Member of Kuwait National Nuclear Energy Committee (KNNEC), and consultant to the International Energy Forum in Secretariat in Riyadh. Dr. Adnan is former acting secretary general and director of research of the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), and also serves as board member of Kuwait Foundation for Advancement of Sciences, Trustee of the American University. From March 1999 to August 2001 he served as director of the Division for Africa, East Asia and the Pacific, Department of Technical Co-operation, at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna, Austria. Prior to joining the IAEA, from December 1991 to February 1999, he served as director of the UNESCO regional office for Science and Technology (Cairo) and as the UNESCO representative in Egypt, Sudan, and Yemen. From 1976 to 1986 he was the director general of the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research, serving concurrently (1976-1980) as vice rector for Academic Affairs at Kuwait University. Dr Shihab-Eldin has published extensively and is a regular lecturer and invited speaker at many international and regional meetings, covering many fields, including Energy Policy, Economics, Technology and the Environment; Oil Markets; Policy, Management and Development of Science & Technology in Developing Countries; Higher Education Systems, and other related fields.

Kunihiko Shimada

Kunihiko Shimada is principal international policy coordinator and principal international negotiator at the ministry of the environment Japan, and is in charge of establishing negotiation strategies for the UNFCCC. At the UNFCCC process, he has been working as a lead negotiator of the Japanese delegation for future issues, technology, adaptation and compliance, as well as servicing as a co-chair of the AWGLCA Contact Group on Development and Transfer of Technologies and chair on various mechanisms for mitigation as well as a member of the Expert Group on Technology Transfer (EGTT) and Compliance Committee. Moreover, Kuni has chaired several international groups, including OECD/IEA Annex I Expert Group on UNFCCC as well as served as an international expert on issues related to compliance, adaptation, energy, technology, financial mechanisms and carbon markets through his continuous and active roles played in climate change negotiations since 1997. Prior to the current positions, Kuni worked for the UN as one of the lead mediators for international peace and security issues as well as negotiator for a wide range of issues, including human rights, women’s empowerment, and sustainable development and involved in negotiation/mediation for Kosovo, East Timor (currently Timore-Leste), and many other cases.

Anil Srivastava

Anil Srivastava joined AREVA group on January 20, 2009 as executive vice president and chief executive officer of AREVA Renewables. Anil has more than 20 years of experience with enterprise market leaders, managing key operations across the United States, Asia Pacific, Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) regions. He focused on articulating vision and delivering value of technology applications for enhanced corporate profitability and efficiency. His last assignment was at Tele Atlas (TomTom group) as executive vice president responsible for worldwide Sales and Customer Support. Prior to his position, Anil worked as executive vice president of the Enterprise Solutions division at Alcatel-Lucent, a group he joined in 2003. In that position, he led the enterprise sales force, customer support organization and multinational customer program.

John Surina

Jay Surina is chief financial officer of NuScale Power, Inc., a nuclear startup and technology firm working to certify and build a new generation of affordable modular scalable light water reactors. Prior to leading NuScale’s finance function, Jay worked as a finance executive for Boart Longyear where he was instrumental in the 2007 initial public offering of Boart Longyear shares on the Australian exchange. Jay previously held executive positions in energy industry finance, as well as mergers and acquisitions, with Texas Genco, Centrica North America, and Sithe Energies, including large equity and debt financing capital raising, both at the corporate and project levels. He was co-founder and a managing partner of Cornerstone Energy Advisors, an advisory firm focused on the sale and financing of electric generating stations. Prior to his work in the private sector Jay was a nuclear trained submarine officer within the US Navy.

Djurica Tankosic

Djurica Tankosic is WorleyParsons’ corporate senior vice president, and Executive Director for Power business in Europe, Africa and the FSU. As a Managing Director of the WorleyParsons Power hub for Europe and Africa, Djurica Tankosic is the global nuclear lead within the corporation. He has 35 years of experience in the power field, including engineering, operation and management of large power projects in Europe and Americas. Most recently, Djurica has been extensively involved in management and development of large nuclear projects such as Belene in Bulgaria and Mochovce in Slovakia, as well as the development of new nuclear projects in Armenia and Russia, where WorleyParson provides architect-engineer and consultancy services to project owners. In 2009, Djurica has been instrumental in project awards to WorleyParsons from the Egyptian Nuclear Power Plant Authority to support the delivery of the first Egyptian Nuclear Power Plant, as well as signing a contract for WorleyParsons to guide the Jordan Atomic Energy Commission with pre-construction consultancy services for its first nuclear power plant.

Hervé Touati

Dr Hervé Touati was born in France, and began his career in research and development in the computer industry. He joined McKinsey in 1995, advising European and North American clients in the finance and energy sectors, with a focus on commodity trading and risk management. Since June 2008 Dr. Hervé Touati is Managing Director at E.ON Climate and Renewables, in charge of carbon sourcing and non-wind renewable energy (solar, biomass/biogas, wave & tidal).

Gavin Tulloch

Dr. Gavin Tulloch founded STI the forerunner of Dyesol and has been pivotal in the development of DSC in Australia, forming the initial team in 1994. He is now managing director global of Dyesol Limited, and is also director of several Dyesol subsidiary companies including Dyesol UK, Dyesol Italia, Dyesol S E Asia and is director general of Greatcell Solar – Dyesol’s Swiss subsidiary. He has been instrumental in establishment of the collaborative project with Corus and collaborations in Italy with Permasteelisa and ERG. His technical expertise is in technical ceramics, materials science and manufacturing engineering. Past achievements include the establishment of an underwater sensor and systems business which grew to be a major global supplier.

Guy Turner

Guy is Director and founder of Bloomberg New Carbon Finance, a specialised provider of Carbon market analysis service and part of Bloomberg New Energy Finance Ltd. With over 15 years experiences as a change, renewable energy and emissions trading. Guy has spent much of his career analysing the theoretical and practical application of market based instruments, in particular tradable allowances. He has advised numerous companies on the business implications of the Kyoto mechanisms and the EU ETS, and has worked for several governments to help design and implement emissions trading schemes. At Bloomberg New Carbon Finance Guy directs the company's research to provide detailed insight into the world's carbon markets, including the provision of regular forecasts of carbon prices in the European, Global, Noarth American and Australian emissions trading systems. Bloomberg New Carbon Finance's clients include many of the world's largest investment banks, energy companies and assets managers. Guy holds degrees in Economics and Engineering from the University of Birmingham (UK), an MSc in Environmental Policy from Manchester University and is a graduate of the London Business School Corporate Finance Programme. He is also a founding participant and active member of the Carbon Markets Association and member of the Barclays Environmental Markets Index Committee.

José Luis del Valle

José Luis del Valle is currently chief strategy and research officer of Iberdrola and member of its management committee, reporting to the chairman of the board. He has been chief executive officer of Scottish Power, based in the United Kingdom, and chief strategy and development officer of Iberdrola. Prior to joining Iberdrola he was chief executive of the mining company Andaluza de Piritas, senior vice president of Banco Central, responsible for investment banking and international capital markets, and executive vice president of Banco Central Hispanoamericano, responsible for capital markets, and later in charge of the industrial and financial groups. As executive vice president of Banco Santander Central Hispano (now Banco Santander) and member of the management committee served as its chief financial officer. José has held directorships in several financial and industrial companies and served as chairman of the board of the glass company Vidriera Leonesa. Is a member of the Accenture Global Energy Board, Palladium's Execution Premium Community Advisory Board and a founding member of the global roundtable on climate change sponsored by the Lenfest Foundation.

David Vieau

David Vieau is the president and chief executive officer of A123 Systems, which is one of the world's leading suppliers of high-power lithium-ion batteries for today's Transportation, Electrical Grid Services and Portable Power Manufacturers. David brings more than thirty years of experience and leadership in developing rapid-growth technology and component businesses. Applying his expertise to A123 Systems, Mr. Vieau has led the expansion of A123 from its initial creation to more than 1,700 employees. Prior to A123 Systems, David held corporate officer positions at American Power Conversion, serving as vice president of marketing and vice president of worldwide business development. During his nine years at APC, David helped grow the company from $50MM to $1.5B, becoming the world leader in power protection for IT markets and employing 6,000 globally.

Michael Walsh

Michael was appointed group finance director of NTR plc in February 2003. Prior to joining NTR plc, Michael was group finance director and company secretary of Musgrave Group plc for ten years. Michael worked with PricewaterhouseCoopers in both Dublin and London. Michael is a non-executive director of Boundary Capital plc, EFMI Global Utilities and Infrastructure Funds plc and is also a member of the Council of the Institute of Directors in Ireland.

Caio Koch Weser

Caio Koch-Weser is vice chairman of the Deutsche Bank Group (since 2006) with global responsibilities for strategy; government, regulatory and corporate advisory; and co-ordination and implementation of group-wide business initiatives. He was appointed as German deputy minister of Finance in 1999 and held the position until November 2005. He was also chairman of the Supervisory Board of the German Banking and Securities Supervisory Agency (BaFin). From 1973 until 1999, Caio held a number of high-level positions in the World Bank in Washington, notably as division chief for the China Program (1980-86), director for West Africa (1986-1990), deputy treasurer and director Treasury Operations (1990-91), regional vice president for Middle East and North Africa (1991-95), and managing director Operations and member of the Executive Committee (1996-1999). Other current activities include the Peterson Institute, BRUEGEL, TERI, ECF and CER. He is also adjunct professor at the Guanghua School of Management at Beijing University.

Dr. Sicco W.T. Westra is chief business development officer and a member of senior management of Sunfilm AG, Grossroehrsdorf, Germany. One of the world’s leading manufacturers of silicon-based thin film tandem junction solar modules. In his position, he supervises the sales and marketing departments, including product management. Dr. Sicco W.T. Westra was vice president of business development at Southwall Technologies Inc., Palo Alto California, a global supplier of thin film coatings on flexible substrates for use in energy conservation and climate management applications in architectural and automotive industries. With Southwall he also held positions as senior vice president of engineering and chief technology officer. Prior to this engagement, he was director of global product management – LPCVD and RTP Equipment, Applied Materials, Inc., Santa Clara California and fulfilled various executive roles at BOC Coating Technology, Inc.

Vikram Widge

Vikram Widge is the global head for carbon finance at the International Finance Corporation, the private sector arm of the World Bank Group. He built this business at IFC and led development of innovative financial products including the flagship Carbon Delivery Guarantee. These products leverage IFC’s ability to take long-term risks in emerging markets and benefit both buyers and sellers of carbon credits. His group has also committed $135 million to purchase Kyoto credits for the Dutch Government from 40+ projects in seven countries. The team is beginning work with banks in key developing countries to wholesale carbon-related products and facilitate climate financing flows. Vikram has over two decades of experience in developing and financing projects that deploy clean technologies in emerging markets, including renewables, waste-to-energy, fuel cells and electric vehicles. He also structured and managed an off-grid solar PV fund for six years. After working in the private sector for 10 years, he has been with IFC since 1994.
